    Quarter mile times

guys I'm curious about 1/4 mile times with the gti. I don't really read car mags much anymore and I'm not sure what times a stock gti would do on the 1/4. I know the 0-100 time with the dsg is 6.9 as vw claim. Anyone have stats from reviewers and times some of these testers may have gotten with stock gti's? Just curious if the times vary greatly between testers and also curious about the 1/4 mile time. I tried searching forums but keep getting times with modded gti's but no info on stock ones. Also anyone got a freaky stock one? There's always a few that perform so much better than most out of the factory.
    cheers maestro.

I can't quite remember the exact time, but IML337 from VWvortex has run his stock GTI down the strip at WSID. From memory his best time was in the low-mid 14s???

Were it closer to Canberra, or if Canberra had a suitable facility, I would love to take our GTI down the quarter mile to see how its seemingly freaky dyno results stack up.

I've taken our stock 3dr GTI to two dyno days now, one in Canberra last June where the best result was 149kW atw, unsurprisingly this result was called into question as that number seems absurd for a car with a factory rated flywheel figure of 147kW. However, the second dyno day we went to was late last year in Sydney on a dyno that is better known and trusted. It was 31.5° and our best result was on the third of three runs and was 140kW.

So, it seems, it's a case of more power to us!

note that 6.9 sec for 0-100km/h is DSG time.

    manual is a little slower.

iirc Best Motoring tested both DSG & manual together. 0-400m times was mid/high 14s for DSG and 15 flat for manual. pls note they used launch control on DSG.

theyre not bad times considering the fuel economy Nardi on the gti. When I test drove the gti it didn't feel as quick as my rex but I did notice the speedo race to 100. The smoothness of the gti tricks you of how fast it goes I think.

Hey, that's quick! When you say they used Launch Control...what is this, and is this something standard on a GTI, or is this something they fitted for the test?

Launch control with the DSG should be engaging sport/drive, foot on brake pedal, depress accelerator and hold, then release the brakes and let the electronics throw you forward... as fast as possible It should be standard in all DSG equiped cars. Apparently in the AWD+DSG cars, the launch control also quickly shifts power to the rear wheels as you release the brake pedal.

the youtube vid of the Best Motoring test for those interested:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ScBruTdjaI

the video showed a 0-400m time of 15.078 for DSG and 15.495 for manual. however if my memory is correct, they ran a few more runs afterwards and both times improved.

towards the end when the GTI goes against the Megane. i think the image is wrong. it said Astra ran 14.841 and GTI ran 15.243 but the video showed the GTI beating the Megane.

with the run with Astra, GTI ran 15.073 and Astra ran 15.495.

so a 0-400m time of 14.841 isn't too bad for a car that weights 1360kg.
