    One year on

Well, this weekend is one year since I bought my Golf.

    What can I say?

It's been a great ride. So maybe it's time to write down my thoughts and critiques about my experiences, but I wont bore you with that, but here's a few noteworthy items:

Top 6 things I could do without in my Golf.
    1. Auto sensing intermittent wipers that wipe the screen when a knat spits on the sensor and don't wipe at all when it's bucketing down. Give me stock intermittent wipers I can adjust.
    2. Auto headlights that light up in broad daylight at noon in bright sunshine and don't want to light up at dusk when everyone else is driving with the headlights on.
    3. The black dipstick.
    4. The brake dust.
    5. The Climatronic system. (For God's sake, give me simple heat, cool and fan dial/buttons! I don't want to know the temperature setting, I just want to get warm or cool - FAST!)
    6. The detente in the front doors.

Top 5 things I love about my Golf.
    1. The way the glove box drops down slowly when you open it.
    2. The strut that lifts up and holds up the bonnet.
    3. The fuel economy of the diesel
    4. The "whoosh" sound it makes when the turbo kicks in.
    5. The pair of VWs projected (Batlight style) by the parking lights when you're up close to a wall.

Top 5 things I wish my Golf had.
    1. Oil pressure, oil temperature and voltage displays in the MFD.
    2. A proper full size spare in the boot.
    3. Two reversing lights instead of one. (Sick of people telling me one of them is blown!)
    4. Kerb lights in the doors that work instead of just a red lens.
    5. A button on the dash that when pressed, drops the front fog lights down to launch AIM sidewinder missiles. (Oh come on! . . allow me one frivolity!)

When testing the Mk6 GTI I noticed the MFD now has oil temperature

Agree with most of your comments - especially re. the auto wipers/headlights. I'll also add the auto-dimming mirror to my list of useless technology. I'm looking at ripping mine out and replacing it with a std flip type day/night mirror. I'd be perfectly happy to sacrifice the wiper sensor, as they don't work either! (as long as I could replace them with a std intermittent set-up)

Haha they're so true! My car isn't quite new enough for everything there but I agree entirely

You missed how the water pours in off the roof, all over the window switches. About my only gripe actually!

I love the auto dimming mirror, auto wipers and daylight sensor. On my car they perform at my expectations.

anyway, I think, if you code out your rain sensing wipers they will turn into standard intermittant wipers, with the little control on top being the interval. I seem to recall someone talking about that on tdiclub ages ago but cannot find the thread.

You, Sir have made my day!!

Edit: Found the post on TDI club, I think. It's all in the relay:

"I ordered a relay from vagparts.com and it was a 603 relay (p/n 4B0 955 531E) - fitted it this afternoon and it works perfectly, I now have intermittent wipers!"
