    Mkv tdi start-up problems!!

I'm sure this have been posted before, but I can't find it unfortunately, so any info on this will be awesome!

My mate has a 2007 Golf TDI Comfortline and has a problem wit start up. He's findings were that it only happens when there's less than 1/2 tank of fuel in the car and it's facing uphill. Usually only when the car hasn't been driven for a few days as well.

He sent an email to his mechanic, who came up with three resolutions - let me know what you think of them/if someone has done something else that's worked for them:

    1. Install a Non-return valve
    2. Replace Injector seals
    3. The height of the fuel filter is higher than the tandem pump.

    Thanks guys!!

    Test the in-tank pump.

It's probably dead. The car will still run off the mechanical tandem pump, albeit down on power and difficult to start.

Sometimes as above the tank pump can fail...the last one that got me as a golf the ran fine unless you nailed the throttle and it died.. tandem pump kept it running normally but under load it couldnt keep up as the lift pump wasnt helping

Might be worth swapping the filter flange/canister out, have seen the pressure valves fail in them which cause hard start issues. Open up the filter canister when engine is cold after having a good cooldown period(overnight) and have a look how full it is, if it's under about half then the issue is either the valve in the pump or the filter flange.

Also check for algae content in the filter itself, another suggestion is check the starter motor revolutions and make sure this is within spec as both can cause a ahrd to start along with above mentioned.
