    Minimum revs for 2.0 TDI

If you are just trickling along a level road in 4th, at what revs should you change down to 3rd? I'm hoping someone with DSG can answer this.
The reason I ask is my auto T4 tdi will hang onto 4th, level road, no acceleration, to 1400 rpm before downshifting.

im sure the tdi golf because of dsg would hold more torque that the tdi t4 meaning would hold gears longer due to the weight and torque multiplication in the clutchs but the best way to check is to shift up in tiptronic till fouth then put it in drive and see what revs it gets to before self shifting at stall point

I should have said that mine is the 6 speed manual.

    Uncomfortable

At 1500rpm on a level road my 6 speed gets uncomfortable. Under-revving is worse for an engine than over-revving, so it should be avoided. Regardless of the revs at which an auto changes down, if you want to get the best from your diesel keep it in the rev range that provides maximun torque. In the case of the Golf 5 2.0 engine this is 1750rpm, to 2700rpm.

    Interesting!
My Golf V 2.0 manual has the DieselPower chip fitted, and it is comfortable as low as 1200 rpm on the flat, although there is not much acceleration until 1500. This means that I can tootle around town at 60K's in sixth if I want, although 5th is more comfortable due to the higher revs and the torque available.
