Loud backfire, followed by rough running...Pls HELP

    Hey guys,

I'm in a bit of a pickle as my 2010 125 TDI Jetta has finally packed it in. Its on 320k km's and never skipped a beat. Until now.

I was 15 minutes into a trip when accelerating, a loud back fire came from the exhaust. Now the car bunny hops when applying any power. It starts fine and idles perfectly. There is a strange ticking noise from near the alternator so could be injector related. No other obvious symptoms

There were no caution lights on the dash however the car has thrown the following codes.

    08759 Oxygen sensor B1 S1 open circuit (P2257)
00665 Boost pressure reg control range not reached (P0299)
08825 Leak in air intake system (P2279)

Has anyone had a similar issue or any Gurus that can point me in the right direction. I cant get into a mechanic for 2 weeks!

    Thanks Legends

You have probably blown a hole/split in your intercooler pipe based off the backfire/no power under load and error codes. Some of the boost pipes to and from the intercooler are rubber to allow for engine movement - and they get weak with age.

If you hear a noise near the alternator, check if any of the intercooler pipes are there and see if you can see/feel/hear air escaping.

Sounds like an intercooler hose has split

Thanks guys, I had a quick look yesterday and couldn't see any splits but will have another look today. I took it for a drive around the car park yesterday and it still starts and runs perfect, though when accelerating, the turbo just doesn't right. Spools differently. Will keep you updated. Thanks again

Thanks for the help guys. Turns out you were right, the lower intercooler hose had popped off. Back on the road! Thanks for your time. Cheers
