I'm so gonna stop complaining about my Mk4 getting old and breaking.
Have you posted on the for sale thread ??
the amount of time my car has cost me because of all its little screw ups and problems is an absolute joke.
sure all the issues have been fixed under warranty but in a lot of cases these issues would often result in not just 1 trip to the dealer but 3 or 4 at least.
i love my car to bits and i definitely want another GTI but lets face it... i got a bloody lemon!
my sisters GTI is 1 year older than mine and its only had ONE issue. sure i haven't had to fork out a cent for all my issues but its just been a waste of time with my constant visits to the dealer, time spent chasing up phone calls etc etc. my car is only 18months old and i dont want to bloody think what it will be like 2 years from now. i just want to get rid of it and start new. i know VW can make a good car, sure most people here have had issues but not on my scale
this is what i have had done (that i can remember)
- new turbo
- new engine mounts
- new front passenger door trim (that took 8+ months to arrive)
- new front drivers door trim that resulted from fuel release switch breaking. that took 2 wrong door trims to arrive
- entire computer malfunction with all the door modules ****ting them selves
- new side repeater on mirror
- new PCV valve
- new fuel regulator
- whole new LED high mount brake light on the spoiler which required removal of the glued on spoiler (now totally munted)
- whole new spoiler because of above
- second new LED brake light for the new spoiler (see above)
- new centre compartment near hand brake (it jammed shut)
- new centre change compartment near gear lever
- new window switch on passenger front door (soft touch plastics screwed up)
- new handles on both front door trims (soft touch plastics scratching off again)
- 2 new rear tail lights
- and finally... THE ANNOYING RATTLES!!!!!!!!!
and im sure i have left some out too
i am really considering writing to VW Australia because issues like that in a car thats only 18 months old is just insane. i was planning on keeping the car for 3 years but now i just want it gone. i recon i got bugger all chance of them giving me a new car for free but i am gonna push extremely hard for a very severe discount on a new car.
i got a bloody lemon and i want to start fresh. it would be a brilliant car if it was trouble free. its not like as if i dont look after it either.
i mean my mums Peugeot 307 has only had ONE warranty issue with it. my golf is the worst car ever in the familly and we have French cars for years
what does everyone else think? i am pretty certain im not being a whining little bitch because this is just beyond belief now

no i wouldnt want to sell it to anyone from here and besides id have to be pretty bloody stupid to post up all that stuff bagging the car then have it in the for sale section too!
i wouldnt sell it to my worst enemy... unless it was for a good price![]()
You've had a pretty bad run with your car..
Have you heard of anyone else having these many problems? Fair enough warranty has covered these parts now, but once is expired you wouldn't want those list of faults to occur again because it will be coming from your pocket to pay for the repair..
I'd be writing a letter of complaint to VW Australia and expressing your annoyance asap! Surely the amount of faults that have occurred cant be normal. You paid top dollar for that car, and expect nothing but quality for that money. That list begs to differ.
I don't think your being a whiny little bitch.. I'd be contacting the necessary organisations who deals with these types of complaints (Dept of Fair Trading??) to see what you can do about this and how to pursue the issue.
I can understand the annoyance of having such a lemon of a car.. I feel for ya![]()
That seriously sounds like fair ground for a replacement. Even if it's a used car that is similar to the build and compliance date of yours, your car should be swapped. Definitely write a letter and point out how nobody else around you thinks much of VW because of your car and make them do something about getting you a replacement.

IMO you're on the money here. Make an offical complaint or what ever you need to do, to make the dealer know you want a new car.
Go for a trade in on a new car. You'll end up a bit out of pocket I'm sure, but do the best you can.
the situation sucks alot. I feel for yay. I havn't even had that many problems in my mk 1!![]()
Over the same period as you,I have had a few little niggles with my Jetta, but nothing like this.
Before the warranty runs out I would either insist on getting an extended one from VW if the car is not replaced,or sell it.
And then play it safe and get a new bland, boring, but ever so reliable and top quality Toyota Corolla.
My Parents have one,and absorlutely NO niggles at all.
i wrote to vw 3 times about my dpf problems and not one response
2x Caddy, 1x Ducato
who did you write to Mischa?
im going to address mine to Mrs Jutta Dierks, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia. maybe i'll get my German friend to write it for me?![]()
I would think that in most cases, Volkswagen will refer you to the Dealer.
Can you imagine what would happen if everyone by-passed the Dealer and wrote to Volkswagen?
Encourage your Dealer to help you find a solution, even if you ask for a reduce priced new car.
