How to remove the A pillar trim?

    Hi All,

Can anyone tell him how to remove the A pillar trim piece? I need to route a microphone cable through there. Does it just pop off? In all my other cars, it just popped off but I dont know if its screwed in because of the air bag.

    Thanks in advance

You should not have to pull the trim off, there should be enough space between the trim and the windscreen to push the cable in.

That's how my mic cable is done....

Are you running the mic to the factory position in the overhead console area?

If so you pop out the airbag detail, undo the torx t20 screw, pull it back from the top carefully as the four tabs pop out. You can then drop the cable down to under the dash and run the cable up the pillar. I used cable ties to keep the cable out of the way of the airbag.

I'll have my how to bluetooth install on my website in about 1-2 weeks so it will have all the photos.

This site will help a little with the install and you can check my site under the bullet camera install for some more info on the airbag insert.

Because of the airbag you should run this properly unless you want the mic to become a missile when the airbag goes off.

    .
Thanks Maverick. I indeed want to install a bluetooth mic in the factory position.

Looking forward to your DIY writeup

Ok I managed to remove the A pillar trim today. Getting the screw out was easy but popping the little tabs out was a pain! I managed to lose one of the black tab holder thingys in the process. *damnit!*

Getting the A pillar back on was even harder! The clip towards the windscreen was the hardest to get back in. It took me a good 30 minutes and lots of swearing to finally get it all to pop back into place.

I now have the Parrot mic mounted in the OEM location. Next up is the car kit install itself but I am waiting for a Parrot VW adaptor harness before installing it and the AVC9000 at the same time.

Doesn't AVC9000 not support external bluetooth - only the internal mic?

You cant have the AVC9000 and another bluetooth that uses the steering wheel button. Thats because the AVC takes over the buttons.

I cant see any reason why you cant have the AVC9000 and a stand alone bluetooth carkit. I am using the Parrot 3200LS which doesnt integrate with the steering wheel buttons. It has its own display and buttons so it should work.

    Mic question

What microphone are you using? Is it OEM or is it the one supplied with the Parrot unit?
I have a Parrot kit in my B6 Passat and installed the mic in the OEM position in the roof - did not work - too much noise & (echo) reverberating through the roof space that the Parrot mic picked up.
Moved it to rain sensor housing on RHS.
Make sure you leave enough cable in the roof area in case you need to move it.

Interested to know how it all works, I have a AVC 9000 in my Jetta and the bluetooth is poor.

Its a Parrot mic. I have wedged it into the OEM spot and it seems to be quite tight so it shouldnt move around.

I will test the AVC bluetooth a bit more before I decide on whether or not to install the Parrot. So far its performed quite well but I need excellent audio quality all the time with my work.
