    DMF rattle?

    hi,

Attached vid recording of what I think is DMF rattling about, is it a clear sign I need to have it replaced?
Shifting (DSG) is smooth except for slight hesitation getting off 1st gear, reverse has the same feeling. In the video, when I switched the engine off, rattling can also be heard.

Anyone sourced and installed Luk DMF? looks the like preferred brand.

I've got 57k and I'm thinking waiting until the 60k service to have look at so it's just one trip, will waiting exacerbate the issue?

mk5 r32 dsg by the way.

    Thanks!

Definitely sounds similar to the DMF's ive seen fatigued.
If you put the selector in 's' or tiptronic while stationary does the noise change or disappear?? If the noise disappears you may find the issue is with the clutch pack and not the DMF.

If you are driving the car HARD then yes waiting can make it worse. however casual driving shouldnt cause any further issues. Luk is one of the OEM brands and yes their products are very high quality.

make sure whoever carries out the repair changes the flywheel bolts as well and also carries out a basic setting of your mechatronics to make the gearbox adaption to happen faster and also without wearing the clutches any more than necessary.

Thanks Ben, I guess I was in state of denial. No I don't drive car hard at also I suppose I'll wait until I go for the 60k service. I'll try putting it on 's' and see if rattle goes.

Hey mate, I'm at 102K kms and have had the same noise since I purchased the car ~10K kms ago. When I got my car serviced at Prestige and Performance they said there was nothing wrong with the car...even the rattle.

I guess there's a tiny bit of hesitation when taking off and in reverse, but this is the first DSG car I've driven so I think it's normal. It still shifts like butter without any weird noises, except a clunk into 6th gear at low speed, which I believe is normal. I have a HPA hockey puck, BSH engine and gearbox mounts too, and I don't have any weird vibrations.

Curious to see your car in person and see if it's just like mine and what diagnosis you get when you take it in for 60K service.

These cars are very quiet when operating in a factory form.

There should be no 'rattle' like in the video. The only noise really noticeable especially at idle is the injectors and then the N80 valve when it operates.

For someone to say that noise is normal shows they have not had much experience with the vag brand.

That's pretty much the brand that P&P are known for. Every time I go there, there's 99% VAG cars (including an R8 on my last visit) and 1% BMW. The P&P owner drives a APR-tuned Mk6 R as well.

Well they did write it down when I arrived in the morning. "Minor service" and "investigate rattle at idle". Maybe they didn't check the rattle?

Surely they would need to idle the car after oil change. Anyways, they said all was good even though I have the same noise as OP's video.

Curious to see if someone else says it's not ok and what might be wrong.

Booked it in at P&P for diagnosis on the 5th March, have been emailing Mike from there. We'll see what they say and report back here.
