    Gear box fault... STUCK!!

So i finally got around to putting the VW diag machine on my car today... Gear box fault. Unable to comunitcate with the shifter (DSG). Tonight i went for a quick drive. I took off it changed to second then nothing. Engine free rev'd. Gear Display was flashing at me and traction light come and well i was stuck on the side of the road for at least 5 min. After a number of starts it was fine. But CEL light is still on. Any ideas?? Common??

Are you using a licensed VCDS ( VagCom)? Flashing on most others means ecu fault, now the ecu in that box is in the Trans and i would say its linked with a mechatronics fault. and not common but seen a couple. Anything else going on with the car????? If you have a full version mate do a full data dump
    Cheers

Are you saying you diagnosed a gearbox fault on the DSG, and then went for a drive afterwards, which confirmed the DSG fault?

If so you're a brave man. I would have called VW assist and had it taken to the dealer without moving it.

There is a known fault when you get the flashing display and neutral.
This is the reason for the USA DSG "recall"
Not the temp sensor or the crimped wire issue, but Mechatronics solenoid sticking afaik.

I hope you have contacted a dealer by now??

Take it into the dealer and get the mechatronics unit replaced (assuming the car is under warranty).

Sorry to the OP to threadjack.

Could this also cause the car to not upshift? Last Saturday I had the DSG in Sport and I took off from the lights, 1st gear to redline then 2nd, 2nd gear to redline then 3rd, it would not upshift from 3rd to 4th - just sat on 5000RPM (redline @ 4500RPM) not picking up speed and revving its tits off for a few seconds until I took my foot off the accelerator and it went into 4th.

This was the only time I've had it happen (although I've had many other DSG problems). Car's been into the dealer once before, they reset it and said nothing's wrong, it's going in again on November 11.
You'd think they would believe I know how a DSG should behave - I've driven 6 others with no problems.

That sounds like you had the selector in S mode?

    Six other TDI DSGs?

Anyway, flooring it like you did most likely kept the car under load, so while it's reasonable to have expected it to change up in your experiment, you can't be certain that there were other factors at play preventing it from upshifting while you had your foot hard on the accelerator pedal.

Allow me to guess what your DSG was thinking while it was in 3rd gear at 5000RPM and holding: "Oh man, this dude expects me to change up at 5g, but if I do, I'm afraid I'll slip and go to 6g and "kaboom"! C'mon man back off a bit . . ."

I dare anyone in a manual gearbox with his foot hard on the accelerator at maximum revs to pull the clutch out to change up.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your DSG.

Yeah 2 other Mk Vs, a Jetta, a Passat and 2 Mk VIs, all but the Mk VIs had the same engine and gearbox combo.
It has other problems (shuddering, jolting into gear, lurching & hesitant upshifts), this has only happened once.

    Yeah, it was in S.

I think it's quite reasonable to expect an "automatic" (yes, I know) to automatically change gears whether you're driving like grandma on the way to church or accelerating hard to make it through the next green light, especially considering the owner's manual says for maximum acceleration to push the accelerator into the kickdown position, which is what I did.
