    Mk5 Golf startup noise

Recently my Golf (1.9 tdi) has started making a short squealing noise at startup, only lasts 1-2 seconds and it sounds like its coming from the middle of the engine bay. It does it when the engine's hot or cold and sometimes after the initial startup the noise will come back after roughly 5-10 seconds in short 1-2 second bursts then go completely. Anyone have an idea what it'd be? thanks.

It could be the dual mass flywheel (DMF). Get it checked.
How many kms the car done?

Had this noise on our TDI Jetta. It was a faulty starter motor and earth wire. Replaced under warranty.

Edit: I see yours makes the noise even after its running. Probably not the starter motor then.

Taking it in to the dealers this morning, hopefully it's not too serious...

Turns out its the starter and earth wire, which is covered by stat warranty...
