    Compression test

Ok so I performed a compression test today on my MK5 Gti.
The test was performed on a hot engine, with throttle open and fuel pump fuse removed.
My results were 190-195psi across all cylinders. Wet test was 235-240psi across all cylinders.

Now I was thinking because of the increase of pressure on the wet test this could be piston rings, or will all wet tests increase in pressure?
Haven't had any issues with it other than it chewing up oil, but then that seems pretty common for the MK5 Gti. I'm also running a stage 2 remap if that makes any difference.

    Cheers!!

Oil use is always high. I'm at a 1L per 1500-2000km. So I use at least 1 container between services.

Yeah I'd say that would be pretty close to my oil use. The more I have looked into it now it seems to be a problem with the cylinder if the pressure varies more than 15% from cylinder to cylinder.
Mine were pretty close across the board. Just panicked a bit when I seen the increase in the wet test.

    Switch to 502/505-spec 5W40 oil.

Oil consumption should improve a bit.

Yeah I changed to 5W40 when I changed the oil a few weeks ago.

That's a bit less than my Skoda Octavia over the last 3 years
The oil consumption has been completely solved by adding 250ml of Liqui Molly Visco Stabil Plus
Done 5,000km so far and have not added any oil

Will have to give that a try. I use Penrite Enviro 5-30 and generally top up around 1 lt every 1000km as well.
125,000km on the engine- might be time for a thicker oil.

I tried 5w40 and it made no difference at all (that was a Penrite HPR+ so not a real 40)

Have to be careful selecting oil for modern engines - especially those with oil controlled valve timing which typically has tiny oil galleries

The trouble with the thicker oils is that both the cold and hot temperatures have higher viscosity
    10W50 then 15W60 or even 20W60 etc
That's where the Visco Stabil comes into play - leaves the cold viscosity alone but raises the hot viscosity to over 60
