Hey,
Purchased one of these tools because I was sick of cleaning up the mess when changing the oil filter.
after draining the sump for 10 mins, I used the tool and drained the oil filter housing for 5 odd mins.
There were still some oil coming out but Ix thought it should be long enough. Plus you a little oil left in the housing is ok as it shouldn't spill.
Undid the housing and a ****load of oil splashed out. It seemed draining the housing using the tool for 5 min did jack all.
My question is how long does it take to drain the housing so it doesn't spill?
I would like to punch the engineer who designed a paper oil filter housing up side down in the face.
My BMW and Volvo oil fiter housing is accessed from the top of the engine. Undo oil filter housing cap and place in a plastic bag. Simple, quick and no oil spills.

That's what I did before but is messy.
How long do you let it drain for before removing the housing?

Until it stops.
They don't hold much, maybe 250ml.

That's what I thought.
The interesting thing is I'm sure I drained at least 250ml and a crapload of oil still spilled out of the housing.

I've never bothered to get one.
The cost of the tool = a lot of brake cleaner (degreaser), therefore it's quicker and easier just remove the plastic cup and wash afterwards.

I just make sure the bucket is in the correct position.
It let it go until I've replace things like air filter or spark plugs. ie Do something else while it drains.
Spray a shed load of degreaser once its replaced.
Also a large cardboard box folded flat makes a good spill catcher.
As the say, a watched oil filter never drains![]()

I would have thought you of all people could amortise the cost of the tool. Lol
I bought the tool so to reduce the mess in my garage (and my hands).
Next time I'll get a clamp rather than hold the hose and let it drain for the same amount of time as the sump.
