Centre Console Cup Holder Sliding Door/Curtain Replacement

    Hi All,

The sliding curtain/door in my partner's Golf broke and I noticed on AliExpress that you can buy a replacement curtain....

Does anyone know how easy/hard it is just to replace that part without having to pull the whole unit out?

    Cheers,
    James

Gotta remove the long centre console trim piece then the cup holder assembly unscrews from that.

Just curious, it looks like a bottle opener shape in the bottom of the cup holder. What is supposed to be there, I've always wondered.

It is actually for a bottle opener. The car would've originally come with one. It also acts as a divider to make two separate cup holders. You can pick them up cheap on eBay.

If that's the case, too hard. It just stays open...

Thanks for this thread. Our MkV has had a bunch of trim fail all at the same time recently.
These are the door fabric trims for all four doors, the foam underneath the engine cover, the roof lining and now the little roll top desk, all failed at the 12 years mark. The car spends a lot of time in full sun, so its not to be blamed.

The shutter for the cup holders was the last bit, mostly because I didn't have the right search terms, and I just ordered the one mentioned above.
At least its all been easy to arrange
