If i were you i'd be buying now or you're not going to get one.
Also, good luck getting a good price. Due to such limited stock most dealers aren't negotiating much at all until the Mk6 actually sits in the showroom next to them.
A made a post last year about buying at GTI this year and the time has finally come around. I'm most probably planning to buy between July and November, earlier the better of course!
I've read quite a bit about how the new GTI is hitting Australian shores around Q4 of 2009 so I thought just before the new model is released it would be the perfect opportunity for me to buy the MK5 for a good price. I'm just wondering when the best time would be? I was thinking maybe end of financial year for maybe some sales? or hold off a bit longer for a better deal as they need to move old models for their new ones.
There is a 30-50% on selected brand new VW cars at the moment (in Brisbane), is that a sign that maybe they're moving their old models?
I'm looking to buy brand new only and only options I'm most probably looking to add onto the car would be DSG, Leather and Metallic Paint

Depends, there isn't much stock left so you won't have a choice of colour, trim and options. You'll have to take what is in the dealer network at this moment which will be very very limited.
There isn't a 30-50% discount, you're misreading the ads. This is about tax concessions. There is a 30-50% on selected brand new VW cars at the moment (in Brisbane), is that a sign that maybe they're moving their old models?
Good luck! You may already be too late.I'm looking to buy brand new only and only options I'm most probably looking to add onto the car would be DSG, Leather and Metallic Paint
You know the 30-50% is the Investment Allowance for businesses? Not general discounting as such.

If you're eligible for the 30 or 50% rebates then you can get it as you purchased your car during the period of eligibility. If you're not as mentioned in the two posts above then you get nothing.
Either way you haven't missed out on anything. I assume you're under the belief that this is a 30 or 50% discount on new VW cars? I doubt that it would EVER occur on brand new VW stock.
At the moment there are free onroads on MK5 GTIs in stock at VW dealers.
Free onroads also on Polos, Jettas, Passats etc ....
excluded are MK6, Tiguans & Passat CC.
So if you want a new VW this is the month to get it ........ got the news when I got an update on my Tiguan coming, yesterday.

I heard someone paid $45k driveaway for a pirelli recently. Thats probably the best deal I've seen in a while.
I wouldn't hold out for a mk6 unless you have the cash. I would expect driveaway prices for a mk6 to be over $10k higher than what you can get a mk5 for. People paid over $50k for a mk5 in the early days - and waited 6 months for the car.

You're missing one minor issue here, the reason why the Mark V's are cheap is that all cars at the moment are cheap because of the economy!
When the Mark V came out the market was booming, it's a different story now and dealers will be willing to do deals to get the sales.
I seriously doubt there's been manyPirellis at $45k drive away. Most deals had trade-ins hence that figure is somewhat misleading. I would love to hear about the straight outright buys and how many actually paid this $45k price. I reckon stocks of standard Pirellis would be running low now and dealer wouldn't be selling the optioned up cars for the same price.
