    Aircon not working

    Hi guys,

The aircon in our 2006 mk5 golf isn't working. I bought a couple a cans and a regas lead/gauge off ebay, but when I plug into the aircon system, it's showing 100psi.
Feels like its going to be an expensive fix, not just a regas. thoughts?

    thanks in advance

Mine is bung too, well it works after a quick drive but will never get cool at idle.
Have you scanned the car for codes with VCDS ?
AC systems never just need a regas, the gas is not consumable it should last forever, if it is low on gas then it has escaped and the leak is the issue that needs to be fixed.

Compressor control valve is the most common failure on these. Check radiator fans too if you just have bad performance.

VW compressors of that era are prone to failure. If you catch it early, you can minimise the expense somewhat. I drove my Tiguan too long after I knew something was wrong, and the entire system ended up with metal shaving and needed flushing. I'd get to an air conditioning specialist ASAP.

I replaced my control valve in the compressor. Bought it off eBay, and I have a mate who does A/C. He took the gas out, we replaced the valve and gassed it back up again. The valve was like $30. If you buy it and provide it to an A/C shop, they may change it for you for a regas cost.

I put a post in here about it.

I got my ac fixed today.
    Compressor $650
    Dessicant (receiver drier) $15
    Gas $75
Cabin filter $35 (did not need doing was only 3 months old), paid anyway got the old one back knocked out the leaves, will use it in 2 years time.
    Labour $425

    Total $1200

Works just like it used to, not nearly as good as a toyota but hey what do germans know about AC ??
Ac shop says yes the valves fail but only because the compressor gets an issue that causes the valve failure. They have 50/50 success rate changing them usually people come back within a few months with a failed valve. New compressor is different design will not cause the valve failure (time will tell)

If anyone wants a new valve I have one, drop me a 6 pack and its yours.
