    What am I missing?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to get a GTi as a daily driver / practical car, and I've just downloaded the pricelist from VW.

What is confusing me is the price of 2nd hand GTis / prices quoted by some of the posts.. eg. 2 year old GTi circa $50k

    From the pricelists.. 5dr GTi = $40k.. add a few options $45k.. S/D+DD = $50k brand new..

So were the prices dropped for new cars leading to an inflated price for 2nd hand cars or do VW dealers gouge you to buy one ?

    Supply & demand

For at least the last 2 years there have been waiting lists for the new GTIs. So much so that some customers appear to be willing to pay above list price for a relatively new Golf (or even Polo GTI) to avoid waiting. I've kept track of 2nd hand Polo GTI prices recently and there have been some priced above new price. Whether the seller actually gets this is anyone's guess.

I suppose you could take it that they hold their value very well.

    Cheers,
    Dave

It depends on the equipment you've got ticked as well. A fully optioned GTI could cost close to 60k on road. I know my GTI's RRP was ~57k (of course I didn't pay for the RR). With leather, sun roof, sat nav, bi-xeon and metallic. Surely there are more options/accessories. Having said that, the waiting period of my car is a full 4 months. Now go figure..
