3 monthly checkup on my gt sport

    Hi
Just recieved a letter from McGraths at Liverpool to bring my gt sport tdi in
for a free checkup because it is coming up to 3 months old. Is this normal
or just a good will thing by the dealer. Any way I hope it still works after
    they have finished with it

    Cheers Kerry

I didn't get any offer of a free checkup (Chatswood Classic Cars). It's probably a dealer thing.

It is to get you in the habit of taking it to them, so once you go and have a great free experience they get you coming back for a paid one!

NO CYNICISM - but there is nothing that they will really be doing to the car at such an inspection.

All while you wait i hope. Wouldnt want to be dropping it off to them so it can sit there all day.

On another note, How are you enjoying your GT Sport.

Its great, no issues with it yet, but then again it only has 3200 km on the clock, apart from the speedo error which everyone else has everything is working great

ps. excuse the small amount of km's done since Nov 07 but with double demerits over xmas and work commitments I did'nt get much driving done.

Dealer free inspection services are a good thing.

Get the car up on the hoist, check the underbody. Make sure nothing is working its way loose.

Make sure the brakes are looking fine, get the car off the hoist, check all fluid levels.
Scan it using the manufacturer computer (this is time consuming) to make sure no fault codes are present.

How is this not a good thing?

Maybe the diesel needs a 3 month check? My TSI doesn't need a service until a year is up, and the GTIs apparently don't either, so maybe it's a diesel thing?

If it's free, it can't be all bad, just kiss a whole day goodbye...

most manufacturers do a short first "free" service at approx 1500k's. it is up to you if you have it done or not.. all they do really is change the oil and filter. i think it is a remnant of days gone by where they used to drain the oil after the run in period to make sure if any wear and tear was there the metal fragments did not remain in the oil system to cause further problems. also some use a different "run in " oil to normal running. so this was the change over point.
when we got our polo we were told that we could get a free service done at 5000 k's and they would change the oil and check the computer for fault codes etc.
dont think it really matters these days with extended service intervals whether you get it done or not.

Rang McGraths VW and booked the car in for next Wed, service guy told me it would only be about 1/2 - 1 hour and that I could wait for it. Seems like the hardest
part of the whole exercise will be driving on the M 5 at that time of the morning. I'll keep you posted on what they did.

    Cheers
