Good on ya Polar Bear!! Good to see a DIY for something so many people are interested in.
Ps. I don't think it's this easy to remove the red lense on the Jetta in case anyone was wondering..
To get rid of the red fog just take the back of the lights off and remove the clipped in red fog bit. Then remove the clear clip from other side to match and carefully stick the discs back in.
Here is DIY for twin reverse/ TWIN Fog lights. Either way they both come on nicely when in Reverse or in Rear fog mode. Thanks to the people who inspired this by posting pics of their own efforts - MK5Sportline

The golf is real easy. As soon as you take the rear lights out with 2 nuts unscrewed.. then unscrew 3 screws and light comes apart.. then just unclip the red and clear covers and pry off the clear top cover disc... glue cover disc back in place on both sides. If the lens looks clouded by glue vapor just pour turpentine into the light and swish it around for a while then drain it.. no problem.
I was amazed when I worked out that 1 wire solved all my problems and now I have awesome rear lighting when i reverse and I have not even upgraded the bulbs yet!

no reason it shouldn't be very similar.
the plus side of doing it this way, is no need for VAG-COM changes, and no bulb out warnings either.
Win-Win.

BTW is the fog lamp globe the same wattage and type as the rev light?
Nice one Polar, definately been interested in doing this, not much need for fog lights in QLD...

If both the fog light still works after the mod, then why take the red filter out. Keeping it "stock" will still provide more light than a single rear bulb.
