18" Vision Rims query

Guys, I just received a price for the 18" visions to fit my Jetta but I have a query on the other parts that may need to be fitted as well..... the parts guys wasn't to sure if they're needed but they are recommended through the VW spares system....
They are the Limiter kit (part number 000071501) and Wheel arch flares (part number 1K00716809AX), I checked a couple of websites and it appears the flares are to reduce the risk of stones being hurled (apparently required by law in Germany) due to the wheel offset bringing the wheels out slightly further.... as for the limiter kit it appears this is to reduce the suspension travel nearer the top to eliminate the chance of the wheels rubbing on the inside of the arches???? guys any thoughts around if these parts are required at all..... I don't recall seeing any of the flares on any other Jetta's/Golfs with 18"s.

You can run 18's easily without these items but they will try to sell them to you and feign ignorance to get a profit of about $500.

i'm running 18" visions on my mk5, and went up to 235/40...no rub.

oh...and get them resprayed black or gunmetal...will look sweet on your jetta!

I'm running 18" Karthoum's without the limiter kit. It's now lowered as o last week and still no rubbing, so yeah not needed, just extra cash their trying to get out of you.

Stay away from the flare kit, they look shocking! Almost like a cheap accessory you'd buy at auto barn.

I was running a set of audi 17" S-line wheels that stuck out about another 25cm extra compared to our Karthoums which don't even stick out past the guards like they say.

...been running vision 18"'s for 4 years no problems... Unless you count scratches from those horrible bluestone curbs around northcote ;(

and definitely no flares etc.

and still very happy with the look !
