    Smashed vRS and spare parts

I did something I never ever do. And left our car parked on the street overnight.

As Murphy's Law would have it, some some douche on his way to work (at 5am) ran up the back of it.

This is how the repairs story goes from the Insurer / Smash Repairer:

    • We estimate it will be 3 weeks to repair
    • 3 weeks pass...
    • Sorry, we're waiting on parts from Skoda, it will be another week
    • Sorry, we're waiting on parts from Skoda, it will be another 2 weeks
    • Sorry, we're waiting on parts from Skoda, it will be another week, maybe 2
    • Sorry, as we thought, it will be another 2 weeks....

The repairs took 8 weeks - because, "we had to wait for spare parts from Skoda"

We get the car (8+ weeks later)

    • We still need to replace the rear tail light cover. The one that Skoda sent us had a crack in it.
    • We got the new replacement tail light cover, but it has a chip in it.
    • Take the car and come back in a few days when we get the new one.

    Oh.. by the way....

    • The battery is dead in your car. It won't hold charge.
    • Skoda said they will replace it under warranty.
    • Drive straight from here (the smash repairer) to Skoda.. and get a new one - cause, once you turn your car off.. it won't start again

    Get to Skoda....

    • Sorry, we don't have any Octavia batteries. We'll have one tomorrow
    • Tomorrow comes........
    • .............
    • Wednesday.... "Skoda... got that battery yet?"
    • Oh yeh.. its ready now.

So, the repairer has led me to believe that they had to wait for around 7 weeks to get parts from Skoda. Is this likely? Or was the repairer telling me porkies?

I have come out of this experience believing that Skoda basically carries no spare parts...

Is this typical? Or, just bad luck? I can post the full list of parts that were repaired if anyone is interested.

    that's shocking!!!
probably b quicker to order the rear bumper & rear taillights from superskoda, and still get it in half the time!!!

then again, i'm not surprised - vw australia controls everything skoda in oz. they also decide on wat spare part r kept in the country. if it ain't in the melbourne warehouse, its gotta b sourced from the motherland.
if the order misses the boat, they wait for the next one. this equals more delays!

oh, n sorry to hear about ur mishap. hope ur car is brought back to its original glory.

Those sort of waits are not unusual in the car repair business and Skoda from your descriptions are no better or worse than many other companies.
Two years ago a friend of mine waited 8 MONTHS for an Accord roof from Honda.

This. I got my Octy back yesterday after only 2 working days, for a new bumper. The repairer did a totally sh*te job of the repair, but that's another matter.

I ordered some wind deflectors for the front windows from my dealer. They had to order them from Skoda in CZ. Was in in two weeks, exactly as quoted. (Somewhat Regional NSW)

I had both headlights replaced from new as they had a weird defect in them, from memory it was under a week. I think most parts come from the CZ though. I'm guessing the repairers went via three other sources rather than directly via VAG, dealers get stuff fairly quick.

    Not always.

I had a petrol flap locking hinge and a ignition switch module fail. It took 2.5 months to get the parts.

At the time they blamed Skoda Aus for the delay.
