I intended keeping my car 2yrs because I wasn't sold on the Skoda reliability story. Then I extended the lease another year. Then I bought the car... 6 years, 142,500km later and I've had 3 non-planned maintenance events, 2 of them occured during the 3 yr warranty period. Non-warranty water pump in year 4 cost me $1200-ish.

If you intend to keep it then extended warranty probably isn't worth it. If you intend to sell after 3 yrs then an extra couple of years warranty is a good selling point.

Dealer already completed the warranty as they're holding the car for me for another 3 weeks until I pick it up... Has already been three weeks since it arrived... Long story

My dealer activated my warranty 10 days before I picked it up (so that the sale went on their June figures). This caused a minor kerfuffle at the end of the warranty when I thought I had 9 days left to get a couple of items sorted out & I was 1 day out of warranty.

I plan on keeping mine for around 10 years AND in tip-top order (unlike current car). Hmmm, still not sure.

I'm planning on keeping mine long term too. Unsure about the extension to 5yrs. Car will be over serviced if anything, like all my vehicles

I negotiated 2 year extended factory warranty at $1145 for my RS. My current car (Superb) needed the engine replaced after the timing chain slipped a few links and caused damage. Skoda replaced the engine under warranty, even though it was a few months out of warranty, as good will, although I had to pay for the labour, which wasn't cheap. So, as good will, I am getting the warranty on my next Skoda.

Warranty doesn't seem to make much difference on my current car resale (5yo Superb with engine and gearbox still under warranty), but a Superb is somewhat less desirable than an RS!

Watch out for dealer backed warranties. They have multiple clauses. $4k for a dealer warranty would have me walk out in a fit of laughter.

If Skoda want to make an impression on the Australian market, they need only to extend to a 5 year warranty as standard (and have some cars in the country to deliver...)

We're not going for the extended warranty. I'll be getting the car serviced by my local mechanic who employs people that know what their doing and he stands by his work if there was a hiccup. We tried dealer servicing for our Subaru and Suzuki but gave up after a few problems like a lower control arm bolt coming loose.
I'm hoping from what I've read that any major defects will show themselves within the 3 yr warranty period

This has been discussed before for newcomers. The 2 year warranty extension priced at $1650 can be had for around $1100. It must be purchased before delivery. It is a full factory backed 2 year extension of the warranty. I have no idea what else is being offered out there but people would be foolish to consider anything other than the official Skoda 2 year extension of the standard 3 year warranty.

Interestingly in the article the Octavia RS did 6.30sec 0-100km/h and 14.60sec 0-400m times (overall 4th and beating the GTI), which is way ahead of the official Skoda 6.80sec 0-100km/h. It also went well in the lap time and 80-120 km/h (overall 4th for both), just behind the GTI. Brakes also were still good after 3 laps of the track, which wasn't the case for a lot of other cars in the test.

So overall a good result. For those interested in the top 8:

The current VW advertising is sad, sic Koalas mating season sells cars???. Skoda should also review it's advertising as well, and sell the Sizzle not the Sausage!
