And I think XC needs to be formatted in a slightly different way which would cause the SD card reader in the car to have issues. I'd suggest you get a SD card that is 32gb, class 10, and try that. My newly purchased 2016 VRS, as I found out, has never been to a Skoda dealer since delivery (not for warranty or servicing or anything). So when I checked it was running the original firmware 0318 and original maps 2016.

With no issue at all, I easily updated it to 2021 maps, then a week or so later when I had time, I updated the firmware from 0318 to 1433, the best available, again using the same card without any issue.

    I'd suggest trying this.
What unit is it you have as Rednuts looks like a Discover MEDIA NOT a PRO

Does it come with is own VW supplied SD Card and if so Its NOT a pro and uses a 4gb map and MUST use its own card.

Where did you get the firmware from as have never seen any updates sine the old RNS510

naturally all my peripherals are either 64gb or higher and 16gb or lower. neither the sdcard or usb drive worked with multiple formats and data sources. i'll try source an old 32gb drive to test with. thanks for the help.

Another forum - took a while to download as it was one of those free hosting where they always want you to upgrade to get faster speeds, but I have it. I cannot recall the forum (maybe Briskoda) but in reading everything, it showed that the most stable and latest version was 1433 - so that is what I downloaded and unzipped. It came as a pack - it was 1433, 1382, 1240 and 1440, but apparently 1440 can have issues on older units whereas 1433 appears to be fine with all ages. Given mine was 2016, I went for 1433 and it worked a treat.

Given I was on 0318, there was lots to do. One example is the old f/w version did not show speed limits in the maps, even with the latest maps. Once I updated it did.

i managed to track down a 32gb microsd so i formated to default allocation with FAT32. extracted the latest ROW map data(p90) and i still get the same error message, currently trying again with p88 but assume i'll get the same error. Perhaps i have an incompatible firmware version at the moment? i found 1 instance of someone who is/was in Melbourne with the same device/hardware/software config as me who had the same issue but their last forum post(Briskoda) was in 2019 so im doubtful they'll respond.

it appears the issue may be because it's a MIB1 system. some folk over at Briskoda suspect said unit doesnt allow for unlimited updates like the newer models. I managed to get it into service mode and it's detecting the update but it just wont let me update it! I managed to get a response from the dude in Melbourne too and he said they'd stopped trying back in 2019 but is now keen to have another crack at it. i just hope tinkering in service mode doesnt lead to bricking it. i'll keep trying and report back.

it's recognising that theres a newer version, it's just not giving me the option to do so. i'll do some more searching tonight regarding a software update that'll allow the Nav update to work.
