New brakes and tires - RS162

Just got my hands on a MY15 RS162 on the weekend and got a few questions to ask.

    1. Are the brakes on the RS162 the same as on the mk7 GTI? Looking at replacing brake pads but not every site has Skoda or even Octavia listed.

    2. Front rotors is lipping. By the looks the previous owner never replaced to machined the rotors. Worthwhile to machine or replace?

    3. Recommendation for brake pads? It's my daily so not going to go crazy with it so don't want a hard compound. Prefer something that brakes well without need for warming up.

    4. Tyres are about to go as well. Any recommendation for good grip and low noise (it's a family car on the weekends).

my understanding is that the mk3 RS has bigger rotors than the standard mk7 GTi.
i.e. its 340mm up front, the same as the GTi Performance Edition.

however the diesel version of the RS dropped down to 312mm in 2016.

An independent mechanic advised me that machining Vw/Skoda disks was not a great idea due to lack of metal. Our brakes were smaller ones though.

Goodyear F1 or Michelin PS4 are usually recommended for the characteristics you want.

Yep if they discs need replacing just replace them. I would be surprised if they did. Same with the pads, do they need replacing or just seems like it? Brake discs up front at the GTiP, ie bigger. Tyres go Michelin PS4.

Definitely replace your rotors with new pads not worth it to get them machined

I used ATE Ceramic pads for my car same brakes as yours 340/310 front/rear they are smooth progressive and last ages also no bloody black dust all over my rims

Ceramic Brake Pads for clean wheels

Yeah, I also found they are the same as the mk7 Golf R as well (340/310)

I looked at my brake pads all round and there is still a lot of meat, but there is a sequel every time I brake and I have NFI where it's coming from. No scorches on the rotors that I can see so no debris under the pads. But the front rotors have are lipping so it might be that, I dunno.

Will look into the Michelin PS4's

I had lipping on the outer and inner ring of my front rotors and plenty of pads left so I ground the lip off with an angle grinder. It's probably not a solution everyone would use.

So I finally got some Michelin PS4 for the RS162. Decent tyres in the wet and dry and noise level were better than the worn out Pirelli Dragons that was on before. Not bad considering they were going on special at Costco for under $200 a corner in 225/40R18.

Does anyone know where to get ATE Ceramic pads in Melb or can ship to Melb? Thanks!

I used volkstech in Heidelburg northern melbourne he was the one who recommended ATE pads

But try any vw specialist near you they are a common item will be easy to order in and fit
It is recommended to change your disc's at the same time as putting on ceramic pads

HSY were the importer but ATE appear to have brought distribution in-house.
