Help me diagnose this check engine light error.

Hi Guys,

I've just had a engine light come up on my dash and upon scanning the code with Torque for android I'm told the error is.

P2015: Intake Manf Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance bank1

The car is revving differently when I first start it and it's definitely rougher at idle and low speeds.

It has 80,000km on it and I only had it serviced a few weeks back. Unfortunately I am no longer covered by warranty so was hoping to get some advice on what I may be looking at before taking it further.

Sounds like it'll need a new intake manifold.

You should be able to get it replaced under goodwill.

Wow that doesn't sound good. Sure hope it's under goodwill or I suspect it's going to be pricey? Presume in this case I'm best off taking it directly to a Skoda dealer rather than the mechanic who has been doing the servicing?

I know it's not optimal but am I running a substantial risk by continuing to drive the car while I arrange to have it looked at?

It sounds like the intake runner flaps have stopped working. It could be that the motor isn't lubricated properly.

Try for goodwill. They'll want to charge you an hours labour to diagnose. There is at least one Tech Service Bulletin on these & possibly a software update.

If they won't do goodwill a few people have managed to take the cover off the motor on the RHS and lubricate it so that it works for a bit longer. You can also buy just the motor & it takes a couple of hours to change.

It's also possible to tie the flaps open with a cable tie while you wait to get into the dealer.

If you have to pay for it yourself then you'll find sourcing from overseas will be much cheaper but if you google "P2015" or "tsi manifold flap" you'll find it a known issue (so you can back-up your claim for goodwill).

In the USA they have extended the warranty on this item (and fuel injectors) out to 120,000 miles but Australia doesn't seem to follow their lead on warranty items.

Car is a 2010 built MY11 with just over 80,000km on it. I have had a bluefin stage 1 on it for just under 6 months but have reverted it to stock when the light came on.

I've booked it in to have it looked at on Wednesday at Peter Warren Skoda (who must be fairly new?) I really need to car back by Thursday as I have a snow trip planned so hopefully I won't be damaging it any further doing this long drive.

Thanks for the tips I might need to delve into them more with you after Wednesday. Hopefully costs don't blow out. It's been a lovely car to drive but I have to say fear of repair/dsg issues have always nagged away in the back of my mind.

While they have the manifold off you should pay them to remove the carbon from the intake valves & also pull the injectors & chemically clean all the rubbish off them.

If the flaps are closed (default setting I believe) then you'll be slightly down on power & use a bit more fuel.

If you get the flaps cable-tied open then the idle will be a bit rough - especially when engine is cold.

Either way, no damage will be done under normal driving.

My wife has a Craptiva V6 company drive. Its just as expensive to run as my Octavia. It's supposed to get 15,000km between services but never gets beyond 10,000km when the "Oil Filter Blocked" light comes on. It just had a High Pressure Fuel Pump replaced under warranty & the bill to Holden was just under $1k.

I don't seem to be down much on power (though hard to tell as I've reverted the tune to stock) but I'm definitely rougher at idle (worried it would stall in traffic today) and it splutters a bit when I start it up from cold, going by your description they may even be stuck open?

Relieved to hear that I'll be able to take it to the snow and back without further damage.

I'm also experiencing the intake manifold flap issue, will need new manifold. Am going to try for warranty, but after gearbox is done.

why don't you get the manifold fixed while its having the transmission done. why go back and have the car off the road for longer? youll only have to wait for them to order the parts and receive it.
