Smile Could this be the begining of the DSG Issue on my Octy????

    Hello All,
I thought I will post this here and see if any of the fellow members have experienced this at any point of time.
    I have a RS 125TDI stock.
Not knowing much about cars, I am getting a bit worried about what i have noticed in the last two weeks. In the city traffic, when I release the breaks, I have noticed a jolt. It is as if the 1st gear re-engages after a split second. Feels like as though it will stall and then kicks into D1.
The first time this happened, It did not concern me, did not repeat for a week. But now in the last week I have seen this almost every day. This only happens from a stop -> start. Rest of the gears changes without a problem. Hope it is not the DSG issue, just the user error

Any input will be much appreciated. Car is under warrenty till Dec. Just booked it in for next week, from the dealer I purchased as a used car a month ago.

id leave it to the dealer. might just need a reset. but PLEASE don't let them tell you that's normal, because its not. mine does it a little (but not hard) only when its cold. really cold. its never harsh

sorry, also don't worry or panic. I don't think its going to be anything serious

if its not a SKoda/VW dealer, if they cant work it out, perhaps ask if you can take it to a Skoda/VW dealer and have them pay for any issues.

Thank you zei20t, It is a Skoda/VW dealer. As soon as i called them, the response from the service consultant was " Don you know about these Kinda of gear boxes"!. My reply was " I may not know much about them but do you think I should feel a Jolt when this occurs?".
Thats when he said "Cant tell anything until we have a look at it, book it in". They may come back and tell me there is nothing wrong with it unless this re-occurs when the car is taken for a test run.
But then I think there will be a record on their books.
Odo is almost 60K, and the 60K service has already been completed just before I purchased it.

Other than that, Im loving it. Hoping to meet up with some of the melbourne Skoda owners, learn about the cars from them!

It can't be "normal" if it wasn't there from new.

Given the extent of the "customer service experience" described above the best advice I can offer is to take it somewhere else. Primarily, I'd be looking for someone who doesn't give off attitude when I ring with a legitimate concern, and unlike the guy you describe is willing to assist with at least the bare minimums of professionalism and courteousy.

He's right in that they need to "look at it" before being able to give any sort of diagnostic opinion. Still, to ask you how much or how little you know about DSG gearboxes is irrelevant. No gearbox shouldn't jolt, and it's his job to know that not yours. If there is any hint or suggestion that "It's normal" refer to the paragraph above.

Check your service book to see what was ticked off. If the DSG was serviced, test driven, and returned to you not doing what it is now then no one with any respect for a customer would attempt to now insult your intelligence by presenting an illogical explaination of the problem being "normal".

As zei20t said, don't panic. It could be just a coding fault. It needs hooking up to VCDS, no question of that, but in the meantime try a few different drive train combinations. Use Sport mode with the ECS (traction control) on/off, and D mode with ECS on/off to see what happens. Try the paddle shifter too.

let them check it out and get back to you. being under warranty you have less to worry about.

perhaps take them for a drive in it if you can replicate the problem before you leave it with them

IT only happens when I am sitting in the traffic queue, release breaks and before i step on the gas pedal, as if tries to shift to 2nd, slips and re-engages. The speed is 3-5 kms on the speedo. so Im thinking there is a confusion of selecting 1st or 2nd and kicks into neutral for a split second, and hence the jolt.

You need to be more clear and succinct when describing this to the service manager
If they can't understand how to reproduce the problem you won't get an outcome

    • only happens when I am sitting in the traffic queue
    • release breaks and before i step on the gas pedal
    • the speed is 3-5 kms on the speedo

You're sitting in a traffic queue, moving foot from brake to gas but speed is 3~5kmph???
Need to be clear, are you stationary or drifting, etc

Is your idle high? Should be ~800rpm

I wonder if they really did change the DSG oil during the 60k service...

that IS weird, they do select 2nd gear on rolling starts. but from a stand-still. always 1st but a quick shift to 2nd. might be a firmware upgrade for it?
