Buying a runout Octavia vRS
Hi all, bit of a lurker here but since I'm quite likely about to join the vRS club thought I'd put a post up here and say g'day!
I just sold out of an 07 Passat TDI wagon with the intention of buying a later model Passat but got the idea in my head that a vRS might suit me better. Having driven a mate's 2011 vRS wagon (TSI) today I am now pretty much sold on the idea and will be seriously looking to buy this week. And for the first time in my life I'm looking to buy brand new if possible... Something I said I'd never do!
Problem: I can't really wait until March (or later) to get one from the new range so will be looking at the last of the MY13 stock. There are no new ones in stock in the state here that I can test drive so I'm intending on buying sight unseen and bringing it over. Which leaves me with questions...
I have heard a few people comment on the Skodas being noisier than their VW equivalent. How much noisier is the diesel than the petrol (which was fine)?
Any other major differences between the diesel and the petrol I should know about, apart from the obvious? One dealer I spoke to mentioned they do handle a bit differently due to weight differences etc.
With both the above bear in mind I'm coming from a MY08 Passat (125TDI) so would expect similar noise/performance to that but firmer ride and better handling.
What do you think is a realistic price to pay, less on roads, for a new vRS TDI wagon with leather? With the new vRS potentially being cheaper than the current model I am a bit wary of paying too much especially when (with the best prices I've been quoted) I can get an ex-demo Passat with < 3000kms for $2k more, and while that adds a lot of extra fruit for the money I still think the Octy would suit me better. I haven't started haggling much either yet.
Any other advice you could give me on must-have accessories, dealers to avoid etc? I will need to get the variable height boot floor - I need to put the dog in the back occasionally (with the rear seats down) so want it at the same level - been researching boot liners today that will protect the interior. But will gladly fit that myself if the dealer can supply the parts.
