I know the early gearboxes are different but I don't really know much about them.

What do you need to know?

Also try asking your question over at VWDasher.com there's a lot of B1 Passat info on there.

    Hi :
Your Passat , the linkage looks like is on tower or is about 10 to 15 cm above the floor
But the older one's comes out straight from the floor
    I would like to know
Is the box is the same ?
Where can I find a linkage like yours

    Love the attention to detail.

I've just started my B1 '74 journey. You've given me some inspiration!

Great job, looks awesome! I had a Passat L 1974 model with larger single round headlights back then. Your headlights are from the TS model. Wish that colour had been available back then. Most of them were either light blue, yellow or white. I remember seeing one with a vinyl roof, which was very unusual. Brings back memories!

PS. Great car but the gear linkages were a real problem. Getting reverse instead of first gear was common.

Love this! So much win here! Who did your dash for you? Did you do it yourself? Any tips?

As they would say in England "This motor is well sorted"
It is VERY hard to find parts... But they are there to be had at least... Shocks have been the hardest part, although I see Peter & Co have found some Bil's.... MMmmmm
    Too many dubs to mention....

    Hi there,
Awesome job I know how hard it is to get parts as I have had to put my 75 TS resto on hold due to job committments but about to get back into it.
Like previous question - who did the dash?
Also I note what looks like a steel fuel tank-was it new or did you do any repairs? Did someone else do repairs if so who. Like many/most my tank rusted out many years ago but some very good fiberglassing kept it alive until a inspector spotted it.

    Hi,
There seems to be a question raised early about gear change mechanisms. I have had experience with both early (pre 76 in AUS) and later types as in 1977_Passat's car above. I have all the bits to convert the horrible early type shift mechanism to the revised type for my project and have done this mod before some 30yrs ago. Not simple but can be done, the box is the same and there is a change to the front engine mounting as well. But the result is no surprise reverse gear instead of first and no jumping out of gear on bumps.
