Good to hear you are back in action!
How much did the rivets damage cost? I forget, was this on a 1.8T AGU engine & gearbox?

Yep AGU and 5 speed 02J box.
The bolt kit was $330. It is the same problem the 1.6 golfs have. This is the 1st my mechanic has seen in a 1.8T. Yes I do give it a lot of stick, I quite often rev the **** out of 1st to redline ( I never up the revs and dump the clutch however). I have bigger heaver wheels too.
I needed a speedo drive gear also, $44. This took 3 weeks from Germany, no one stocks this in AU or Asia.
9 hours labour also.
That scares the **** out of me. But it seems to be a lot rarer on the 1.8T gearboxes though..
Most people have never had to think about it, and they are putting so much more power through the 1.8T ones than the little 1.6L's, without failure too. They'd HAVE to be stronger than the 1.6L ones wouldn't they? Otherwise every 2nd 1.8T modder would be throwing gearbox rivets right?
My gearbox code appears to be: EVS
Got FUNK?!

Soon to be wired to a random Funk selection.
Haha, awesome.
I need a funk switch!
Gave the bora a wash, think its the first time since GAD, whoops
The box will be the O2J if it is 5 speed. This has been used on dozens of models for many years.
Here is some light reading

VWVortex.com - Exploding 02J Transmission--Anyone Know What Might Have Caused This?
I bought a loom off eBay.co.uk which came with switches - you can get the same from Kufatec.de (I think that's the link - lots of good retrofits on there!) - Kufatec might be cheaper depending on the value of the Euro etc ... The looms are lhd so you just need to remember that when you wire up the switches - ie. just swap the leads to the switches and you'll be right. If you have GTI seats, you'll have the heating elements in them - if not, you can get the loom, switches and heating elements as a kit too.
There's a good how to on here which shows fitting the heating elements to the seats as well as running the loom.
