Bora gear knob question

Hi all
I would like to replace the gear knob on my Bora V5. I have tried twisting it off anti-clockwise but the whole boot moves with the actual gear knob. Is there a trick to it that can be explained to me?

If you lift the boot over the gear knob you can see a collar that holds the knob on the shaft I think this collar needs to be sacrificed to get the knob off

The plastic trim has clips in the dash, unclip them and lift the gaiter over the knob (it will still be attached but you will be able to access the collar

Yep, you are supposed to replace a clip but I did read a post where someone worked it off slowly to preserve it.
