    auto golf stuck in 3rd

    hey guys
whilst driving today i entered onto a highway going up hill and the car got stuck in 3rd gear doing 100-110km/h
i had the gear in D(4th) and put it back in 3rd gear and back to D and didnt make a difference.
decided to pull over turn engine off and back on.. when i accelerated this time it went into 4th no issues...
1st time its happened.. not sure if its a common problem but is there anything i can do myself to try and prevent this from happening again?

could be some kind of limp mode that was reset when you restarted the car. Best to get it scanned IMO

Yeah i would scan both engine and gearbox, throttle body can upset the gearchange, may need to be cleaned and reset.

Scan means to use Vag-Com or similar computer based diagnostics to read the faults that have been recorded by the car.

you've probably done it but it may pay to check trans fluid level as well - have experienced the same thing in other autos and fluid needed replacing
