most probably addressed, i'll be interested to see the AFR's of my car when I get it on the dyno. Overfuelled = good potential for power when tuned
I was truanting over in the Mk3 section and came across the VR6's issue (assume 12v) of apparent "overfuelling". I wondered, since the 4Mo is the less valve-challenged cousin if we have the problem too, or whether it was addressed?

I reckon my car overfuels - I get plenty of soot on my exhaust pipes...
Nothing to see here...
Meaning the tuner has more potential to extract power from the fuel being delivered?
Regardless, I assume this is pretty bad and wonder what parts could be checked/replaced to fix it? Quick research seems to indicate temp sensors, bad injectors, bad ECU, or bad fuel pressure regulator (these are inside the fuel filter right?)

i think he means as in if it's over fueling, then there is the potential to tune it so it is actually running properly which will get you the power you should have.
my car's been running very rich, down to an AFR of 10, for over 6 months now. trying to fix it, hopefully nothing the richness isn't damaging anything.
though recently if it's night time and there's a car behind me with headlights on, i've noticed that from a standstill, i can see smoke behind me if i floor it in first (and no not from wheel spin...)
a little worrying i have to say...
02 and MAF sensors are first places to check if running rich, however a lot of cars are tuned overly rich from the factory by design (for emissions and engine safety).
e.g. for peak power/torque most n/a engines can be run as lean as 12-13:1, which is worth a lot of power and better fuel economy.
Turbo cars tend to need to be run a little richer for safety.

I'd imagine a stage 2 ECS fuel efficiency kit would go some ways to helping this, but it might be a panadol for a brain tumour.
Would a full VAGcom scan pick this up? If so, I'd imagine it won't exactly scream out which part is at fault, so I'm guessing this is where a good dyno tune and tuner comes into effect?

I've already got the stage-1 fuel efficiency kit, and am still having the issue. I'm ordering the O2 sensor as part of our current GB in the hope that it helps (I'll effectively have the stage 2 kit by then).
I wonder if the richness I'm getting comes from feeding the car an exclusively RON98 diet, as well as the fact that cars generally run rich from the factory anyway (rich is much safer than lean). I'm considering throwing the car up onto a dyno shortly to try find out what my AFRs are etc, as well as working out a performance baseline...![]()
