Could be so many of these. So has this happened to anyone else?
I have a problem. My R is leaking badly on the rear passenger side footwell. I have vacummed probably half a litre out of it today. Its not the window...its been air tested as I noticed this again after heavy rains a few months ago. After spending about an hour in the car today...there is no sign of the car of water coming in. All the headlining is completely dry. All the pillars completely drive. Drivers side completely dry. Had a bit of a search on Vortex, seems to be a fairly common problem with R's and Mk 4s with sunroofs- drainage nipples clogged. (exactly same symptoms as me- a pool of water in the foot well)

Do non-sunroof cars have similar nipples? Where are they? Need help please!

Are these the ones under the doors...?
Nope ask vwtech he just solve the problem before he bought my R which i notce leakin during the big rains we had in Coffs......Pollen Filter. area pm him.
Okay...so I poured a small amount of water down where the nipple is (next to the pollen filter housing) ....most of the water drained out from below...but lo and behold...water soaked to the rear passenger footwell.
So I have found the source I think.
remove the wipers and scuttle panel from lower screen and remove the pollen filter, the housing that the pollen filter sits in has to be water tight so it doesnt get into the fan and cabin, remove the two 10mm bolts from either side of the housing and you will find it has a foam gasket, pull this off completely and clean the surface, make a nice bead around the surface where the old foam gasket was with "sticker flex" windscreen sealant or your left over shower sealant! stright away fit the thing back on with the 10mm nuts (of course clean the body first!) let dry and then retest, also there is a small rubber grommet between the pollen filter and wing that is used for the bonnet cable on L/H drive version, sometimes comes through there. The A pillar drains are only for sunroof models mate, its where the sunroof drains off, and yes they do get blocked and need a press and also a blow out from the top with a air line. Water will get into the back as much as the front even if only on a slight incline. Hope this helps, ..........VW..........
Thanks heaps for this Pete. I have contacted the dealer (not VW) where I purchased the car from. Hopefully it will be fixed under warranty. If not I will be doing it by myself. Was yours leaking as bad as mine? Is this a common problem on the R's that a VW dealer would know about?
