Holy crap man that sounds like my car!
Seriously, I bought reflex silver GTI with 70 kms, those rims and new Bridgestone tyres only two weeks ago. In northern Sydney no less!
You got a great price too - mine was a couple of grand more for a very similar car.
Enjoy it, I'm loving mine!
Another cause of misfire on these is the Ign amplifier which is mounted on the Airbox, fairly common for replacement.

You've done very well then. I had a hunt aound and didn't like any GTIs around the $16k mark - my budget was higher anyway so it didn't bother me at the time... it's a bit annoying now though!
As for performance etc mine felt a bit strange until I learned to drive to its rhythm. Once you know what gear to be in etc (I don't mean to be patronising - the gearing DOES seem odd to me) you can really gel with the car and take a road to pieces.
