The headlights and tails work though, not the indicators. Doesn't your car make a loud beaping sound if you leave the indicator on when ignition is of though? Mine does.

Uve got a cl right? I found it does the same thing but my gl would do as described above. Since urs looks like it has textured bumpers im guessing its a feature of all cl's and is not year specific (mine is 96)

I now have a mk4 sport, but I used to have a GL mk3. The parks/tails would stay on with the indicator activated and sometimes I would accidentally forget about them. With the mk4, there is a warning beep/chime when I open the door so I dont leave them on. It's very thoughtful of VW IMO

    In other words.

If you leave your indicator on left or right; that side will remain illuminated as a safety precaution.

Yeah it's the parking lights so the car is easier to see at night. The tail light on the same side should have been on too.
Idea being you leave the light illuminated on the side which is closest to the middle of the road (depending how you've parked) so some daft prick doesn't clip the back of your car in the rain or fog! Not quite so relevant here mind you...

How long would it be before a battery would go flat? Especially in icy and foggy conditions?
