1.8t Diverter valve questions...

Hey guys,

A mate of mine has a 2002 GTI, and wants a bit of noise for the cool boost dump type thing. He is a registered user on here but far too lazy to get off his bum and ask the questions himself, so here i am..

What are the options for replacing the diverter valve to something that makes a bit more noise? I don't want to change it to a straight up blow off valve, because (as some/most of you know) that upsets the tune with the MAF telling the ECU that the engine is consuming more air than what it actually is...

So.. options please..

The Forge Duel Port Diverter Valve diverts 70% to intake, and 30% to atmosphere It wont upset the MAF, and makes some extra sound. This is what I have on my Polo GTI.
Turbo Smart have their Kompact series, which is the same, but about $100 more expensive.
You can get the Forge one through Rennenhaus or through Shaneth...I payed $220 for mine delivered.

I like the sound of that.

Tom purchased a wastegate bleed type boost controller the other day and we had a bit of a play and wound it up a bit, which obviously made the boost dump/divert louder. So now he wants louder again. Haha.

Any other people have any suggestions?

These adjustable BOV's from GFB are pretty cool.
The Stealth FX is manually adjustable by turning the top to adjust between atmospheric and recirculation ratios.

I have the APR R1 and even with just a modified (read: shaved) airbox, you can hear it.

It's certainly noticable in the car, not sure how loud outside the car though. Then again, I personally don't want to attract that kind of attention.

Yep BMC CAI has cool echo, don't need to worry about atmo venting (ticket time) or MAF faults pain in the

Forge 007 is a good recirc valve which clamps quickly to help keep the boost pressure. BOV for attention whores, recirc valves for performance.

There are DV's that have an adjustable blow off to atmosphere. You could open it up a bit until you get a fault code then go back a bit.

I can hear my forge inside the car, not sure what it sounds like outside though. I have CAI fitted though and supposedly that makes them a bit louder but I am not convinced.

Changing the spring in the DV makes the sound different too. I do have 28PSI though

TBH unless you have VAG-COM to clear the faults it could turn into a load of hassle.

I'd just get an alloy recirc valve and leave it at that. Having the car flashed would help the noise as there would be more boost to divert.
