    Leaky GTI :(

    Hey all,

So a few months back the GTI was leaking in the drivers side rear footwell...turned out to be the sunroof drains. Managed to unblock them and dry the car out and get rid of the musty smell.

Been a bit rainy the last few days and all of a sudden the musty damp smell is back. This time the drivers footwell is soaked. I've checked all the sunroof drains again, they seem fine.

In my searching on the net I'm coming across people having leaks because of a pollen filter being blocked up. Is that likely to be it? Can anyone suggest anything else I can check?

    Thanks,

    Alex

What are you doing to check the sunroof drains ?

An easy test is to pour a cup of water down each line and see that it all comes out cleanly. If after waiting a few minutes you squeeze the drip nipple and water runs out then you know there is a blockage.
You can take the drip nipple off and expose the end of the tube to allow larger crap to come out.
Fronts are easy, rears are a PITA

The drains block easily as the opening at the top is larger than at the bottom. When blocked the water backs up the line and spills into the headliner, then runs down the pillar to the floor. Water will pool in whichever corner is lower.

I personally check mine each time I wash the car. I have had mine full of water and had to remove all the carpet, and seats to dry it out.

I never want to do that again.

I've been doing what you suggest to check the sunroof drains. I'm also not convinced because it's the drivers footwell which is wet, but it's not the lowest corner when its parked in the driveway (which is where its been parked when its leaking).
