So I bought a MK4 Golf today ......

In need of a car for my kids to the learn to drive on and with my oldest turning 16 last month, I've been looking for a runabout that can take the punishment of 3 learners ....

Found a 1999 MK4 1.6 GL here from a fellow forum member that was in reasonable condition, needing some TLC. Mainly in need of front bearings, front brakes, control arm bushes from a mechnical side and lots of interior attention. In line with the family tradition it got a name when it got home and will be known going forward as SHREK ....







So shortly after arriving today, I swapped out the right front hub and control arm and added new brakes. Found good low km 2nds for the hub and control arm with good bushes. Will give me time to recondition the originals now with new bearings and superpro bushes at my leisure.








Next weekend the left side will get the same treatment ,
And on the test drive afterwards the bearing noise was almost gone

After that the interior will get some attention .....

So its been a busy weekend on the new old Golf .....

Replaced auxillary belt, rhs parker globe, dipstick tube,



rear wiper motor,



fuel pump, suffered the dreaded leak and fuel smell and new seal did not fix it,



left front hub, rotor and pad ....




its getting there ...... some interior trim parts incoming from the UK and Hong Kong this week ....

Big thanks to tek199 that had the wiper motor and fuel pump (and some other bits) for me

Another busy Sunday .....

Replaced the rear shocks today .....





And looking at fixing the tired interior trim,




to this (glue still drying)
