    Stock boost level?

Hey everyone. What should the stock boost be on a AWU engine? Our beetle hits .6-.7 for a second then drops to .5 til redline. Is this normal?

That would be about right, small turbo gets a bit wheezy at the top end. You'll get 1 BAR or just over chipped up.

Ok I just thought it might have been a symptom of a broken n75 to have a 1 second spike. Anyone had any issues with exhaust blockages?

The downpipe isn't that high flowing but I don't think too many cats have become blocked.

I'm running out of options now, spark plugs/coil packs replaced, bypassed the n249, hks ssqv in the mail(but I've blocked off both pipes and the vac line for now), dump pipe in the mail,

Is there any common boost leaks?

My wife is getting very angry now and I need to find the problem before she burns the car. Getting out of a 2000 celica into the turbo beetle was a bad choice with the major power drop I think. I should have bought her a v8 so she could keep the power.

If there was a boost leak the ECU would most likely have picked it up. Have you had anyone else drive it? The boost you are reporting, what gear are you checking it in. You can't really use 1st or second, as the car accelerates too fast and ingests the boost as quick as the turbo produces it.

Running it up a hill in 3rd or 4th is a better way of checking the peak boost.

Why not give Jmac on here a call and see if he can check it out for you. Get the smoke machine on your engine to see if there are any boost leeks, and run a real time diagnostic check. Jmac is on the south side of Brissy and not far from Ipswitch.

Best to take it to someone who knows VW/Audi...

Did it used to drive differently?

there shouldn't be a major difference in performance between the celica and the beetle. the auto celica was especially horrid and it's very hard to reproduce all the performance numbers that toyota stated.
