Mine hasn't got A/C Jay so i'll have to keep the windows down !! I was over there in Feb and had a hire car which reminded me of how hot it gets in a car there so don't blame you for wanting it - think it was just the US spec C's that got it but sure could be done i guess - especially if you're capable of building 4WD 16vG60 !!!
Brisbane to Melbourne was a brave one mate!! Long way - guess you stopped and stayed plenty of different places (Sydney?) and got plenty of reactions to your Corrado !!
Think i asked you a long time ago but can't remember who you used to ship yours with ?? I'm getting a few quotes at the mo and Karman shipping seem to offer a good service - heard of them ?? Name made me laugh ! If not can you recommend anyone else ?? I want to get it booked for around 20/10/05.
    Cheers !!

    Cost of shipping

G'day! In a container? How much to get the car to Oz? At present looking at bringing in a container or part container of parts. AQIS is a real bummer however as they won't allow wooden pallets and have rules about steam cleaning and other quarantine protocols. Not that I'm complaining...Being a farmer I know the need for these precautions!

Hi mate - yeah it will come in a container - karman shipping will put it in its own container for £1100 or most other companies charge about £900 in a shared container. This included various other handling charges but not the tax and other stuff. Cool thing is i can fill the car up with stuff and it doesn't cost any extra. Before you ask i won't have alot of room left already !!

I would have fitted air-con a while ago but i have mounted the alternator where the air-con pump should go. I have just run out of space to put it. On yours it shouldn't be a problem. Keep you eyes open for any air con mk2 or mk 3 parts. Might as well bring the parts with you if your getting a container.
I shipped mine in a container but put all my furniture etc in too. I got the container too my house a loaded up outside. Tricky bit was building a ramp to get the car in there. It cost £1200 or so to brisbane port. I was thinking of putting the other corrado on a ro-ro ferry. I think it's only around £800 or less. Only problem is they won't allow you to have the car loaded up with stuff. I might go with what your doing so i can bring over extra stuff. Could bring over my vr6 24v engine in the boot .

Ah yes i remember reading that the alternator is a tricky bit when building a 16vG60. Did yours start life as 2.0 16v Jay or was it a G60 to begin with ?? Think i'm right in saying its easier to 16v the G60 than the other way round ?? Do you think the A/C would be very power zapping ??

    Yeah, it started as a 1.8l 8v g60 then to a 2l 8v g60 and then a 2l 16v g60.
It is easier to 16v the g60 as you say but which ever way you do it it's not cheap. I think the best conversion for power v price would be a 2l conversion on a regular g60. You not only bring up the capacity but you can increase the compression ratio too. Are you thinking of something like this yourself?
There's no doubting that air con uses power but on a engine like the g60's with 200 hp it's should'nt be to noticable most of the time.
Do you run a chip and pulley on yours?

    Hey Carpoid
Whats the deal with the container, do you take the car and stuff to the docks, or do they bring you the container? I`m a Pom too and I hate paying top dollar for every little european thing. I think you can buy a car for export to Australia provided you have a reciept saying it is sold for export to Australia and it has to be before January 1989 First registered.
15 Years old. Is that an F plate in the Uk, that seems old. I want to bring a scirocco storm.

    Import rules

It's the "15 year rule" that applies. If the car is more than 15 years old it can be registered with little compliance mods. Newer than that it costs more than the car and the freight together to get it ADRed. What would be the biggest problem would be getting a car that would pass roadworthy...especially in the area of rust. Most cars from Europe and N America would be rusty at 15 yo. I doubt they would pass. Import costs also include AQIS protocols such as steam cleaning and detailing (not just anybody can do it...they have to be AQIS approved and they charge the Earth) plus landing fees and other add-ons. You would really have to want the car badly to bring it in. http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/ is the Government site. Also http://www.importdriver.com.au/ gives useful information.

2.0l conversion would be a good one Jay, mine hasn't had any mods to the engine apart from a Jabba Stage 4 rebuilt Charger. The car only has 55000 miles on the clock and i really can't make my mind up whether to mod it or not as its so mint, really would like another to have a play with. And besides all the talk of modding it i really can't afford too much aswell as shipping it to Australia !! Now i've gone to book it they've put the prices up again - 1500 for the 'sole use' container now (including a load of other handling/admin fees) or 1100 for a shared container.( Golf Leon i have to drive the car to London where it will be packed into the container) I am determined to bring it with me though, the VW scene is the only thing i'll really miss when i move there .......how is it for ordering parts from the UK ?? Do you pay import tax on things over a certain weight ??
