Question Would you buy a t5.1 with oil that looked like this?

    Hi Folks,

I'm interested to purchase a 2011 Multivan comfort line TDI-400 w/ 200,000km on the clock.

I recently had an RACQ inspection prior to purchase and the photos of the oil were concerning. Would you guys buy a t5.1 with oil that looked like this, time to run?

    Suggestions welcome!

If it was just the cap, yes of it has been stood for a while. But dipstick?.. I'd get an independent test done.

I had the oil in my Golf R (which was brand new at he time) go like this at one stage when I was only driving it very short distances. Its just moisture/condensation and goes away when you take the car out for a decent drive and get the oil hot. It was milky under the oil cap but the dipstick still looked fine.

This might be the case with the car you are looking at? Or it could be something worse. Have you got the ability to take it for a good drive and then check the oil again? If not, take it to a VW specialist for an inspection and diagnosis.

Did the RACQ report think this was alarming? What about any servicing interval evidence ie stamped service book with owners manual at least every 15000k's? My T6 is the first diesel i've owned & the oil does look old before it is old, compared to a petrol engine. The engine components in the photo kinda look freshly degreased...

    Don't walk, run.

They're problematic enough as it is.

RACQ inspections have, in my experience, been a waste of time. Pay for a compression test and they don't do it because they would need to remove the engine cover which they don't do.
They are really just doing a visual inspection. Take it to a VW specialist for a proper going over.
