    Tuning T5

Sorry if this had been asked before (couldn't find it in the search), but has anyone tuned their T5 using a diesel chip from chipmydiesel.com.au? What are your experiences?

They offer a 12 month warranty on the chip itself, but not on the engine and drivetrain (like Oettinger and APR offer). I am looking to buy a new 340 Comfortline with the intention of towing a caravan and would like the extra performance.

    Many thanks for your comments,

Consider remap rather than chip because of the DPF and also because the remap is superior to chip.

I have driven a 2.5TDI with the Oettinger re-map in a manual 4Motion crewman, and it is very nice!

Unfortunately, Oettinger doesn't do one for the 340TDI. So I've been considering the 350TSI, which goes to 184kW and 400Nm with the Oettinger magic The down side is loss of the TDI economy

How does this affect warranty I recently heard from another forum member that the dealer found out he had done some upgrades and they apparently refuse to give warranty on the components affected .

That's fair enough don't you think? You've bought the vehicle with the 103kW and upped the power to who knows what, so it's logical that the components will wear out faster or may break.

The thing that now attracts me to the 350TSI is the (advertised) maximum torque range of 1500-4000 rpm.

I am assuming that this range of maximum torque will help more in towing a caravan better than the 400TDi that only has maximum torque between 1500-2000rpm?

I agree that upping the kW and Nm will put more stress on engine and drive train. The question is, "Does this increase excede the design of the componants?" I assume that remapping the computer is generally safer than a piggy-back chip because it does not alter information sent from various sensors to the computer (running and protecting things). Which is why in my original post, I had asked if anyone had any experience with this particular chip.

I would expect that any non-factory mod to the car would enable the factory to not honour warranty claims, which is also why I am/was looking for a tuning company that has supreme confidence in their product and offer a warranty with it (which I hope to never use, just like insurance).

Happy to be corrected on any of my assumptions

Well I got a Performace tune for my 2.5L 4 motion. What a difference! Especially since I put the big all terrain tyres on. Its make her much more zippy and made the power more useable.
The blokes at Race Torque in Wangarra did the job and for a great price. I have confidence in them too since I know a number of crew who get race torque to prepare and tune their rally cars.
All in all after a few month of having the tune I'm happy. I still think I could do with a shade more bottom end (ie between 1000 and 1800RPM) but we will see how she goes offroad finally in the next few weeks
