Looks like I might have made a mistake buying this van.

I've never had an issue with my 2011 bi-turbo; no doubt a small percentage are affected by this issue. It barely used any engine oil (far less than a previous Golf 5 tdi) I owned).

I got an ecu tune and EGR delete done just to be extra happy with it...

Hi Stickshift, good to know there is some hope. I will fix the overheating first and then go from there. I was impressed with flexibility of the Multivan and we have a Golf diesel as well and it a great little car.

What mpg do you guys with bitdi get ?
Old engine never got more 800km tank, new engine with dpf removed, egr blank, remap getting close to 1000km.
Sendo what suffix egr you got? Get it blanked or second option replaced with D cooler.

It’s still in the shop looking at overheating problem. Have not had it long enough to use a full tank . Same for the oil usage. Can you tell type of egr from engine code?

Dunno Sendo, but unfortunately likely to be A suffix on early models, T5 2L were upgraded in 2012, generally less engine issues after upgrade but still not entirely, D coolers fitted to last T5 and early T6 in 2015, honestly if you can get your money back do so, if you intervene before oil consumption starts great, if already using more than 1L1000km and you have full dealer service history, then consumption test and compression test and goodwill application.

If I knew what setting to change to post photos I’d send you a photo of egr plaque next to filter

Ive taken mine 3/4 way around Australia, best efficiency is at around 90 km/h (or less but is not practical) where I managed to get 1050 kms out of the tank before the warning light came on.

I’ve also set cruise on 135 km/h for hours on end (in the NT) and consumption is a real world 10 L/100 kms, around 800 kms from the tank.

Short trips around town (with engine warming) consumption is not great. Mine is tuned and EGR removed, consumption also depends a lot on driving style.

    Hi Kombi
According to this info on EBay I already have a D type cooler.
It’s a Pierburg 7.02756.07.0 with a date on it 24jul17. I’m assuming that is a manufacturing date. So if the egr cooler is only 2 years old , then it’s probably the head gasket that’s leaking. Any way off to the VW diesel specialist next week to see what parts he think I will need to replace to fix the issue. My mechanics has an lpg test done and it was positive for LPG in the coolant.

Don’t know why you have what looks like a sticker over original label ? Peel off that top label , the suffix is underneath.
