Is a Multivan worth it ? (considering purchase)

I currenly own a Tiguan and am leaning towards upgrading to a Multivan due to these capabilities I expect a Multivan to deliver above a Tiguan:
    - Kids (2 of them) would be safer in a crash in Rear-facing 2nd row seats of Multivan.
    - If encountering a road closure or an extended traffic jam, camping inside a multivan is way more comfortable than being stuck in a car.
    - Kids can cope with longer trips easier due to more space to mover around inside a Multivan.
    - Extra safety due to weight and height of Multivan configuration.

I would like to hear from existing Multivan owners if Multivan actually delivers on the above, or if they enjoy other aspects of it I have not thought of. Are the benefits worth the extra $15K over a conventional car like Tiguan for 2 kids only?
(I had a look at "Considering a Multivan purchase, some advice needed re towing" but it talks more about towing/servicing, not about the high-level picture). Thanks.

We currently have a 2009 TSI Tiguan and have ordered a Multivan for pretty much the same reason you are mentioning. We are keeping the Tiguan as a runaround though.

Having just done a long trip with 3 early teen kids in the Tiguan I can emphatically state that it is not suited to the job, whereas a Multivan surely must be.

Phillip has (had it there a week ago) a Multivan standing at his dealership (Gerald Slaven in Belconnen), go and have a look and take it for a drive. Remember to take the kids with .....

We love ours! Nothing compares for comfort and space with the Multivan, not just in the rear but also for the driver and front passenger. I get out after a 7 hour drive and have no aches or pains like I do with most cars.

We have the two middle seats removed and have slid the bench seat forward. This gives us a HUGE rear cargo area for bikes and other gear and also allows a 5th passenger or my wife to sit between the kids in the back. On long trips at night they can have there own overhead lights on and that does not effect me driving.

I have taken 4 adults and 2 kids on trip to Canberra and back with luggage with no issues as well as just our family of 2 adults and 2 kids to Dubbo and back on the weekend. Loving the Multivan Space, space and more space!

I too have two kids, a tiguan and the exact same wants and needs you have listed. my difference is that Our multivan will replace a duel cab ute. the multivan is more comfortable, safer on many levels, heaps more leg room, which for my family is really important, and offers a luxury feel of a Volkswagen, that not even an amarok will deliver!
We have ordered ours, and will keep the tiguan for my wife to drive. the multivan will be great for my business with the captains chairs out and the bench seat forward, then on weekends I can put back the chairs and carry the inlaws or kids friends with us and know they are safe, and just as comfy as us in the front.

    Brilliant really! Go get it!
