    235/65/17 wheels for a 4motion.

    Hi all,

I just got a 22 4motion LWB and looking at upgrading the wheels and tyres to something more chunky.

235/65/17 is the go, and talking to the local tyre shop they said that most steel wheels wont fit, because of the change of the caliper size to all transporters since 2018. I wasn't aware of this change, and have seen a few similar transporters with standard '4wd wheels' (simple black ones) and the same tyre sizes. I've included a few photos on the transporters ive seen.

Has anyone had experience here? I'm not necessarily wanting to spend a heap on a wheel (thinking Fuel's/Black Rhino's etc.) and want something simple.235/65/17 wheels for a 4motion.-img_5516-jpg 235/65/17 wheels for a 4motion.-img_5075-jpg

You just have to find a rim that will have the correct offset, width and clearance for the caliper. In the second photo, you can see the brand of the rim is KING.

Looks like its this design: TERRA - BLACK

For a 235 width tyre, you probably want a 9" wide rim (possibly an 8" though). Im not sure what the stud/bolt pattern is on your car, but its obviously got 5 bolts per wheel.

You would need to chat to a wheel shop about a suitable spec to suit your car.

You could pick up a set of Amarok 17" alloy wheels for really cheap. They will fit perfectly and have the correct load rating.

be aware there isn't a large selection of LOAD RATED tyres for 17"

My van is an 04 2WD which came standard with 17's

    Awesome thanks all!

That amarok idea is one i might look into further.

Have heard various things from suppliers with various tyres that are load rated at that size.

    Pirelli Scorp AT+
    Kuhmo AT51's
    Dueler AT's

If you’re doing heaps of 4WD then 65 profile might be the way to go. But, if it’s only 1-2% off-road then u could consider 60 profile.

I’ve been using 235/60/17 for the last 12 years on LWB with diff lock.
    - fits easily in spare tyre area
    - no rubbing front tyre on full turn
    - Speedo becomes perfect

I had Yokohamas initially, but am loving the Cooper ATT - good grip on and off road. Very long lasting.
    Load index 106.
