Are you sure its not just the turbo you are hearing?
Hi all,
I have recently started to notice a whistling sound coming from the engine bay under hard acceleration on my 2019 V6 Highline. Does anybody have any ideas on things I can check to identify why the noise is occurring and where it maybe originating from?
Are you sure its not just the turbo you are hearing?

thanks for the reply. It could well be the turbo, however it is something that I have only noticed in the recent weeks. I’ve had the car for over a year. I thought it could be a leak in the air box, but don’t know how to check.

If the airbox has somehow popped open then this should be pretty noticeable and could certainly contribute to some extra noise, but not much unless the airbox has a gaping big hole in the side of it.
Otherwise, a boost leak (eg an intercooler pipe is not sealing properly or perhaps has a hole or split due to some debris hitting it) will lead to a noticeable squealing noise when accelerating, and usually you will notice a decrease in engine power as some of the air being pressurized by the turbo is leaking into the atmosphere instead of being forced into the engine.
Otherwise its just the normal noise of the engine. I have an Audi SQ5 with the biturbo V6 TDI and with the windows down you can very clearly hear the turbos working (especially between 1,500-2,500rpm before the engine noise takes over), With the windows up, its much quieter.
