MY20 amarok V6 highline hissing noise

    Can’t believe I’m posting this

    Or hearing this.

    Noticed today
    Cold engine/hot engine
Sounds like a air hissing noise from the right side of the engine when accelerating and listening carefully. Stock standard vehicle.

    Vehicle km less then 1000km.

Note* I could be going crazy

Anyone had V6 TDI hissing noises ?

MY20 amarok V6 highline hissing noiseThinking air intake system or EGR. This vehicle has so much technology in it- could be normal.

    No hissing noise from mine.
Can you record it and post it up here? Is hissing still there after engine shut down? If you’ve VCDS or OBD eleven, are there any fault codes when scanned?

    You have a 2020 V6 too ?

While driving only. When accelerating, around 2000rpm or higher.

    Haven’t checked for codes yet..

    Drives fine..

    No codes.

Only way to check for this noise is drive the car on a hoist and and listen in the engine bay for this noise.

I’d need a microphone in the engine bay to record the noise. Don’t think you’d hear it with my mobile phone.

It only does it under acceleration.. sometimes.

I’ve installed a KN air filter. Maybe could be air hissing through that maybe.

May have to go for a drive with my VW mechanic and see what they think..

If that is a panel filter in the stock airbox, check the box seals properly. That has happened to me before (on another car) and you can hear the hissing sound from that gap. Also check you reattached (if you removed any) any breather tubes/pipes, less likely than an airbox not sealing 100%.

If it is an open filter, then it will make lots of noise ....

Put the factory filter back and see if the hiss is still there. Also make sure that the big hose clamp from the filter box to engine intake is tight. I’ve seen a few being lose.

I ended up checking the KN air filter.

There’s only 2 things I did that could have caused this noise.

    Install KN air filter

Run wires through the firewall for LED rear lighting

My dealer which I purchased the car through, foreman went for a drive.

He pinged it straight away- noise from exhaust resonating into cabin coming through firewall have i got a grommet out he asked.

I said yep I’m running wires through for LED lighting.

I didn’t know these cabins were so tightly sealed from noise MY20 amarok V6 highline hissing noiseMY20 amarok V6 highline hissing noise

Once I’ve finished with my wires through this tight rubber grommet I’ll Silicone it like crazy MY20 amarok V6 highline hissing noise. I knew it would be something stupid.

Still thanks for the pointers none the less guys !

its the power steering resivour. Mine does this too, whilst the engine is idling, grab the lower hose on the steering resevour and change its angle, the hiss will stop.

Very annoying but I havent done a thing with it, lol.
