A Mk1 GTI rad is fine for pretty much anything - especially with little, to no, accessories on the motor

I mean power steering and a/c, which put a further load on the motor

You'd only run into issues if you have big compression with that setup. The top-fill radiator will run fine

Is a mk2 gti rad much bigger or better? curious to this myself.

Something you could do is get a twin fan shroud, not sure how much difference they make though.

    ahh i see!
yeh i dont think there is big comp, it may be a bit higher however

i think a good flush should see the radiator working fine again hopefully

The Mk2 8v one is a fair bit bigger than the Mk1 top fill.

I have a twin fan setup on my Mk1 GTI rad, which seems to work well. I couldn't really say if it's any better as I haven't run it with a single one, though.

I used an Audi 80 1993 Model Radiator and twin thermofans for my Mk1. Its almost perfect sizewize and contains heaps more coolant than a Mk1 rad.

I rarely saw any Mk1s overheat due to small radiators, even the standard ones work fine if the rest of the cooling system is up to scratch.

I squeezed a twin fan Cordoba radiator into my MK I, but then I also put the cordoba motor in there too!

the top fill radiator is the same size as the gti/diesel ratiator too, its just that the gti/diesel radiators have separate expansion tank to make it a proper air free system and so is a little more effective...

and so yes, the diesel and gti radiators are the same.
