    WANTED: kr 1.8 16v

Hey guys im thinking of buying the
red mk1 gti on the sales forum
and i wanted to put the 1.8 kr 16v in it!
does anyone know where i can get one? and approx pricing?
    thanks

also i went and test drove the Mk1 on carsales with the kr 1.8 16v in it
was an absolute rocket! loved it, but the asking price was far far to high
    for the overall condition!

In my opinion the cost of a 1.8 kr 16v engine including installation, freight of the Melbourne car to Sydney and getting it registered will outweigh the cost of buying the Golf on carsales. Plus (I haven't seen the car, so don't know for certain), from what people are saying on this forum, the 16v conversion on the carsales Golf had been done really well. So, nothing against the red GTI for sale on this forum, but if your plan would be to buy it to stick a 16v in it, I think it will always work out cheaper to get one that's already had the conversion done. Also, I would think they should be negotiable on the price (from what I remember this car was sold a few years back for less than what they are asking now - and, again, based on the comments on this forum, it was in a better condition back then). Just my 2c.

    Good luck!

    Cheers, Dom.

Take it from someone who has done the conversion and believe me that it will work out cheaper to buy a car that has already been converted. Especially one that has been done properly, which (as mentioned) that red one reportedly has.

    Thanks guys!
i did like the mk1 which already had the conversion, however when i put her up on the hoist to have a look the front end slumped, indicating being in a serious accident
or structure integrity has been jeopardised, also found more rust!!! which sucked!
so i didnt want to risk it and she would only drop to 7500!

what does everyone think about getting a regular mk1! and doing the conversion because there is a nice straight one for about three and that leaves me with about 7000 to play with

    Thanks heaps dom!

well I'm able to pick the car up by myself and I'm not paying for labour
on the engine conversion as me and my uncle who is an experienced mechanic
are willing to give it a shot!

    does that change your opinion?
you seemed pretty reformed, more so than me! I'm a rookie

Your going to be lucky to find any Mk1 golf without rust issues, the newest ones are 29 years old man.

What induction system are you intending to use ??
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...
