They're about the same. I have had a really long one though which might have been a MK2.
Diesel and petrol take different routes accross the engine bay. Is there somthing you're trying to work around?

Hi All
Can someone tell me if the petrol and diesel clutch cable lenghts are different in the Mk1?
Which one is longer?
Thanks
Gary

Here's a pretty clear shot of a diesel cable.
and here's a pic of a very long one. I've never found another this long and don't recall where it came from.

Hi Pete
I just bought another Mk1 GLD and there is too much play in the clutch pedal (2 inches or so before the clutch cable engages), the cable is extended all of the way out too?
Thought the cables may be different lenghts as I had to replace a cable on my other one and I was told to ask for a Diesel cable
Thanks
Gary
FYI Long one is from K jet cars.
Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...
If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
Cheers,

Sounds like yours is stretched. A new one should fix it.
You should also have a rubber grommet on the box itself for the cable adjuster to sit on, this takes up some of the slack.
There should be a rubber block on the atuation lever itself too.
If it's still a bit long you can make a spacer to go on the lever itself.
Pete
Cool, always wondered where that came from. Cheers!

I had the same issue as you on my old GLD. I prefered th lower take up position, but hated the slack. so I fixed a bolt to the top of the clutch pedal, which removed the slop, and meant I didn't need to knee myself in the face trying to engage the clutch!
