Changing a sump is no biggy. Just whack some gasket sealnet around there too for home jobo no leaks.
Many people have added extra metal onto there sumps for extra protections.
Ok, so it turns out I've dented the sump, and its leaking at the edge of the snout where the sump bolt is. It was a matter of time, and pretty lucky that sweet bugger all oil was lost.
Issue is very similar to what Spyda had in a post he made with his pic below.

However, the dent I have is the whole way from the front, to the back with the dent maybe 5mm inward. Can anyone comment on how close the oil pick up is and if its in-line with the 'center' of the sump where the scratches are, in the above pic?
Also, any tips on sump removal would also be appreciated. Currently reading the many sump related threads on here. As far as I can tell, its just a matter of unbolding, and bolting back with a clean surface and new gasket goo?
I'm thinking of 'JB Welding' the tiny crack so it doesn't leak and then driving it around here and there until I can source a undamaged sump.
Cheers

Cheers. Yeah I'll have to weld on some reinforcement to prevent future cracking I think.
I'm going to be reinforcing my cars sump eventually too. Just going to weld some thick ass plate on there as haggardly as i can.
Good on you for breaking it!![]()
Cheers bud. In my mind, it occurred at night and there was sparks everywhere. In reality, it was prolly over a car park speed bump. Cant for the life of me figure out where it occurred.
So consensus around here is to be not too concerned with blocking pick up with the bump as is?
Here's one I prepared earlier.....

Peter, that is an awesome job. I reckon mine will be no where near as clean.
heh, seems nobody wants to answer your question.
if indeed you've only punched it in 5mm, you should be fine. infact, you do need to make quite a large dent to break off the pickup, but i've seen it done (mk1+ cut springs+ jump = no more oil pressure.)
the furrow from the sump was 25 feet from the launch position![]()

Cheers, next time though I think I need to extend the plating to around the drain plug.
This went onto Dom's lowered MK1. I don't think he managed to break it
The plates are 3mm thick, I just happened to be in the mood for welding that day. That's my Tandem trailer in pieces on the floor below.
